Great news! Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Even better news? We’re still partying for the whole week. Dress up in a different costume every night (or wear the same one over and over, nobody cares) to as many costume parties, band tribute shows, and horror movie marathons as you can handle.

Fall festival season, coming in hot cold and rainy. Break out your fall jacket (check the pockets for stray bills — a fiver, score!) and come out to celebrate the harvest, local music, film, food, beer and cider, and lots more. Really just any excuse to gather together and be festive with your neighbors a few more times before we stay home and hate each other all winter.

You’ve been wiping the sweat off your brow and dreaming of fall weather for most of the last month, and now it’s finally here. So throw on a cozy sweater and feel the leaves crunch under your feet on your way to one of Boston’s many street fairs, artists’ open studios, university lectures, the first-ever HUBWeek festival, and so much more. Oh, and all of these events are FREE to attend, because those pumpkin spice lattes aren’t going to pay for themselves, and no, the guy whose weird name is written on your cup instead of yours isn’t going to pitch in, either. There’s so much going on around Boston, I’m just going to get right into it, no time for jokes. (Just kidding, there’s always time for jokes.) (Otherwise how will I make people like me?) (Yes everyone needs to like me I was born broken and only the constant outward validation of my self-worth can make me feel whole again.) On to this week’s events! (more…)

In a couple days you’re going to wake up and check your phone and it’ll say “Saturday, August 1” and you’ll freak out and resolve to stop wasting your summer. Then you’ll go back to sleep for a while because it’s too hot to go anywhere without AC, or at least a powerful fan pointed directly at your undercarriage. But eventually you’ll get out of bed and pull up this post and start kicking summer’s ass. (more…)

Hey everyone, Jim from The Boston Calendar here with events that don’t suck for the Fourth of July weekend and beyond. Half the city’s going out of town and the other half is already staking out spots on the Esplanade, but for the other other half, there’s still plenty going on. Or just find a barbeque somewhere — or even better, a BBQ (fewer letters = more American, and that “-que” part looks suspiciously French).
