Hey everyone, Jim from The Boston Calendar here with events that don’t suck for the Fourth of July weekend and beyond. Half the city’s going out of town and the other half is already staking out spots on the Esplanade, but for the other other half, there’s still plenty going on. Or just find a barbeque somewhere — or even better, a BBQ (fewer letters = more American, and that “-que” part looks suspiciously French).

We really are spoiled here in the summers, and I don’t just mean because we get so used to warm weather that the air conditioning in a chilly restaurant feels worse than all of February’s blizzards combined. I mean because there’s so much stuff to do. This week Cambridge throws down on Mass Ave, Everett gets a new craft distillery, and the Museum of Science explains the, um, science, behind Pixar movies. The lineup for the fifth edition of the Boston Calling Music Festival read like a menu for the chain restaurant you go to when someone wants ribs, someone wants fajitas, and someone wants chicken fingers because she’s 14: There’s a little something for everyone. People like to hate on those restaurants, but hey, everyone went home happy, right?
The May edition of the biannual festival lit up City Hall Plaza with performances spanning alternative rock, hip hop, acoustic folk, indie pop, and ‘70s soul — and that was just Beck’s Friday night set. (more…)

You did it, Boston. You survived another endless winter. Except it did end, finally, and now you can go outside without making sure you brought your Chapstick and cradling your phone to your bosom to preserve its battery life. Throw on a hoodie, maybe a light jacket, and check out some of these 200 events happening in April, possibly Boston’s greatest month of the year (that T.S. Eliot was full of crap).

A rare April snowstorm is forming over the Atlantic seaboard. The National Weather Service (NOAA) is forecasting an “April Nor’easter” of unprecedented proportions, with 24+ inches of snow possible in Boston. The storm is slated to start on Monday, April 6th and continue through the early morning of April 8th.

Year of the GOAT confirmed. This past weekend the greatest basketball player of all time (Michael Jordan) and the greatest football player of all time (Tom Brady) got together for a pickup basketball game at Baker’s Bay Ocean & Golf Club in the Bahamas. The two later played a game of pickup golf with PGA golfer Keegan Bradley (last pic).
